Last week we had visited an orphanage in Karachi known as Sirat ul Jannah. It was related to a course assignment and also a part of The Rainbows project. It was my second experience visiting an orphanage and this time it was a different experience. I had gone there for 3 days in a span of two weeks and I loved the enthusiasm and energy level of the kids there. Also, the owner is very flexible and openly allowed us to conduct group counselling sessions with the children there.
I do not want to boost with what I did there but the purpose of writing this article is to encourage other readers living in Karachi or Pakistan to visit this orphanage as well. Sirat ul Jannah is run solely by Mrs. Ghufran Qureshi. It is located in Defence Phase V. Since there is no big organization running the place it will be great if we as a community can provide this orphanage our moral and financial support. The kids are provided a very healthy environment. They are also sent to schools and madrassa's. The lady is providing them with proper food and accomodation. Hence this is a place I can guarantee that they are doing their job well.
Recently this small yet loving orphanage has received a letter from their landlord that they need to leave the place in a month because the owner needs it for their personal use. This has left Mrs. Qureshi and the kids very troubled. One month to move with so many children of different ages, it can never be an easy task. I mean if a family have to move to a new location they usually take months to plan so how can one expect someone with 150 children to move to a different location. This is why I am asking my readers to help this lady anyway they can. Donations or helping them find a new location or if someone with a good designation could knock some sense into the landlord that too will work.
I really hope that we as a community, as Pakistan, as Muslims and in the name of humanity could help this lady who is really trying to make a difference in the lives of the children.
